This page offers basic guidance on typesetting a LaTeX document in the Maithili language using the Devanagari script.

Support with ini locale file

Here is a minimal sample file with maithili as the main language (assuming luatex, which is the recommended engine, and babel ≥25.14, although it may work with previous versions).

Calendar

The Indian National Calendar, named indian, is supported (luatex and xetex). Here is an example setting indian as the default calendar for \today.
