That would probably be CTAN. http://www.ctan.org

Find a package which addresses a particular task and usually you'll  
find an example document bundled in with it. I list a few of my  
favourites here:

There've been a couple of sites set up which show domain-specific  
examples --- usually a judicious search on Google (be sure to always  
include a typesetting term or scientific phrase) will turn some up.

This list is really low-volume. Your message yesterday was the first  
since 17 July. I think there're archives on the LaTeX Project site.

You might find TeXhax or usenet:comp.text.tex more of what you're  
expecting.
