This is going really off topic now, but of course there are other
possibilities to do emphasis with fraktur than letterspacing. For example,
you can use Schwabacher for emphasis (sticks out like bold extended out of
a classical fraktur type). Or you can use roman type for emphasis. In
german typesetting the was a traditional standard which guaranteed the
mixability of different types (now practically defunct).
