You can disregard the message I just sent.

I now discovered that a subsequent message from Frank (Mittelbach) implicitly answered
this:

\usepackage{shortvrb}
\MakeShortVerb{\|}

[I knew there was a package SHORTVRB, but that did not appear to work - I now know you
also need to use the declaration MakeShortVerb]

So ignore this.

Just a dumb question. I haven't done much in LaTeX lately, but try to follow these
discussions.
Which package do I have to use to get this text through LaTeX without the "shortref" |
causing problems?
