I think the question to ask is: can a font to be used for math extension or math italic be also used as a normal text font or vice versa? In my feeling this is highly unlikely. starting from that it seems a waste of space not to use the lower font dimens. We should not forget that if J"org's example finds its way into, say, fontinst then suddenly many text fonts will have those additional parameters and thus the space wasted will be large after all. so I would suggest using the lower dimen. frank
