On the one hand, people can persuade the LaTeX "owners" to change the defaults of article.sty, anf if they make a 100% persuasive case, no doubt the change would be made . Otherwise the FSF cab make up an fsfarticle.sty and copyright it how they like and use it as they like. Whats the advantage of this scenario for anyone? In practice, the theoretical RMS could makea new format file, with \AtBeginDocument used, and get what they want via an fsflatex command, and hey presto. am i missing something? sebastian
