This seems to me to be exactly the point of this discussion. Within LaTeX2e there will be no notion of an `old' font selection scheme, just a LaTeX2.09 compatability mode. Therefore we dont *need* a name for the font selection schemes, other than the name of the LaTeX versions in which they are default. So lets drop references to `NFSS' when talking about LaTeX2e. Dean
