If you send your document to a colleague, you may wish to assume that your colleague already has a copy of foobar.sty, so that you can save the trouble of sending him/her a copy of your copy. Then how do you guard against the possibility that s/he may get subtly wrong results---no error messages---because of having version 1.2 instead of version 2.1 of foobar.sty?
