Yes, I know, but so is 2.09, and my point was that there is a lack of clarity on the fact that 2.11 is an upgrade which should totally supersede 2.09 on all platforms, as TeX 3 should blot out TeX 2. I fear that a) many ordinary users are not aware that they can and should upgrade, b) because up to now there has been no "managerial control" of Makeindex (the original authors have apparently been unreachable for some years), nobody has made concrete announcements on the matter. Recurrent messages in the TeX fora show that many people are still using 2.09. I also know that 3.0.8 is not publicly available, and in spite of Joachim's hesitations about the quality of the code, I strongly believe that 3.0.8 (or later, of course) deserves to be distributed. This has to come from Joachim, of course. I am hoping that this discussion will reach him, and he may be moved to release 3.0.8, or to discuss his aims with David Love. Dominik
