Why not simply support one characterset (like we do now) which is a little larger than the one in use today? Why not unicode (16 bit) or its successor ISO-whatever (I've forgotten the number) (32 bit)? This approach offers the best of two worlds, as far as I can see. It allows the use of non-american-English characters and it still retains the advantages of having exactly one charset only (thus avoiding possible ambiguities). Cheers, Mike.
