We (that is, the LaTeX3 group) agree that it should be possible to write the index style information into the .idx file itself. That would make it possible to specify, e.g., the collating sequence in the document itself, provided that the index sorter supports this. Joachim Schrod is working on a new version of makeindex that allows specification of collating sequence (among other things). \seealso is a rather simple addition, once you know what it should do :-) > BTW.
