Since I (and probably many others) use a 20pt style for transparencies (in slitex, most of my favourite macros are unavailable, for want of fonts), I have made a 20pt style file. In the process, I discovered that article.sty is hardwired to accept fontsizes only in the form 1x. I could, of course, have called it 19, but the change was totally trivial. Unfortunately, the resultant file is no longer article.sty, which makes it nonportable. Since I feel that in general LL did a remarkable job in designing latex, I will keep to myself the adjective I use to describe this design decision, but I hope the designers of latex 3 will do better here.
