Any basic scheme selected for any LaTeX capability must keep this in mind, and ``cater to'' the need for device independence. Even if postscript were to be labeled today's perfect output device, it won't be so the day after tomorrow. Various LaTeX styles and style options may be tied to any given physical device, but LaTeX itself must remain as device independent as possible, or it will simply cease to be LaTeX. When I pick up a document that has change bars I know automatically what the notation represents, without having to look to find a definition of this particular document's unique approach. There are also (numerous, in my experience) organizations that _require_ changebars in their documents --- none of the proposed ``new and improved'' techniques would even be considered. Yes, in _some_ cases, an organization's view may be changed, but not in all cases. Changebars are a requirement that has do be dealt with... -- |---------------------------------------------------------------| | Mark R. Friedman | Voice: (508)480-0800 x1650 | | M.I.S.
