Perhaps >>> \numbereqn? Knuth suggests that having found one bug in any program, one should always search for similar bugs that might have been introduced by analogous (mis-)thought processes. In a similar way, one might search for a syntax that would allow for the retraction of an arbitrary command, rather than attempt to define the converse of all possible commands.
