Invariably around 60% or more of the LaTeX users are secretaries. After all, they get paid to type. The other users get paid to do research, to teach, to manage, etc. If they spend three hours a week typing, that can mean a bookkeeping loss of $30-$270 a week (yes, it's all on paper and doesn't necessarily translate to those numbers, but decision makers like to count that way). End result is that the typing work is usually done by secretaries. But whether you agree with this profile or not, the original point that the short form has to be fully equivalent to the long form still stands. -dh
