Bizarre thesis requirements exist everywhere.  At = the University of
Utah, we have a uuthesis.sty that has been used for = scores of theses,
but we still get problems with the thesis editors on = every new thesis.
Among the peculiar rules:

        (a) double = spacing (okay for editorial markup, but terrible
          &nbs= p; for final copy)
        (b) tables = must be preceded and followed by at least 6 lines
&nbs= p; of text, but must also appear after their point of
&nbs= p; reference.   What if there is space to fit the table
&nbs= p; following its reference, but not to get 6 lines more of
          &nbs= p; text after it?
        (c) = Inverted pyramid shape for chapter title.  God help the
&nbs= p; student with a title "An Analysis of
          &nbs= p; Antidisestablishmentarianism".

The list goes on and on, but you get the idea.
