I'm typesetting a book with notes at the end of each chapter. I don't = like this style personally, but sometimes it's a Good Idea depending on the books subject and purpose. LaTeX, as we all know, positions footnotes at the bottom of each page, which is usually a Good Thing, but its D*mn Hard to ovverride. All I can think of right now is to write an output routine to do the job, which of course means an additional file. I'm sure this has been discussed earlier, all the same - How, if footnotes could be easily tucked into the .aux files with parameters to tell them where to go - At the bottom of the column (some want this) - Spanning the bottom of the page (most want this) - At the bottom of the utmost column (some might want this?) - Spanning the bottom of some columns - At the end of the {section, chapter, report} Then one could easily write macros for footnotes, endnotes, and = whatnots. OK, this means that a second run of LaTeX will become mandatory because the footnotes won't be inserted until the second run. This can be = amendend by inserting footnotes that don't move by more than one page during the first run and leave Power Footnotes for Power Users. -roffe ------_=_NextPart_001_01C19443.A183AFBC Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable {1} Re: {?} of ltx help files

I'm typesetting a book with notes at the end of each = chapter. I don't like
this style personally, but sometimes it's a Good Idea = depending on the
books subject and purpose.

LaTeX, as we all know, positions footnotes at the = bottom of each page,
which is usually a Good Thing, but its D*mn Hard to = ovverride. All I can
think of right now is to write an output routine to = do the job, which of
course means an additional file.

I'm sure this has been discussed earlier, all the same = -

How, if footnotes could be easily tucked into the .aux = files with
parameters to tell them where to go
        - At the = bottom of the column (some want this)
        - Spanning = the bottom of the page (most want this)
        - At the = bottom of the utmost column (some might want this?)
        - Spanning = the bottom of some columns
        - At the = end of the {section,chapter,report}

Then one could easily write macros for footnotes, = endnotes, and whatnots.

OK, this means that a second run of LaTeX will become = mandatory because
the footnotes won't be inserted until the second run. = This can be amendend
by inserting footnotes that don't move by more than = one page during the
first run and leave Power Footnotes for Power = Users.
