There is also a similar mechanism with the french guillemets when used at a second level citation, here is an example: People is thinking << it's too hard to work though we often express the opposite via the french colloquialism : << working is << good for health >>. A stupid example with french punctuation showing that each line of the second level citation must start with guillemets. Not easy to handle in the present state of LaTeX 2.09. Easier in ltx3?
