Some time ago I discussed with Frank the matter of the = naming
convention for the Pandora fonts. I know this is only = marginally
related to the LaTeX 3.0 project, but Frank sent me a = pandora.sty for
the new font selection scheme and the font names = there differed from
the ones I use.

I have found three naming conventions so far:

(1) pan10   pb10     = po10     psp9    = pss10    pssb10    psso10
(2) pnr10   pnbx10   = pnsl10   pntt9   pnss10   = pnsx10    pnsi10
(3) pnr10   pnb10    = pnsl10   pntt9   pnss10   = pnssb10   pnssi10

The obvious person to discuss this with was of course = Neenie
Billawala. Her answer was:

> The names you have in (1) are indeed
> the ones I used when designing Pandora.
>
> When I sent them off for distribution (to DEK), = he told me
> that he had changed the names according to a = convention that
> Pierre Mackay was lobbying for. Since the reason = for the name
> changes was clarity, it was fine with me. I = didn't make
> an "extended" bold, as in CM, there = was no **bx font.
> You have listed these names in (3).
>
> I haven't seen the names listed in (2) until = now.
>
> -- Neenie

That is, the recommended names -- I'd like to say = `official' -- are

pnr10        roman = (upright)
pnb10        roman = bold
pnsl10       slanted = (originally `oblique')
pntt9        = typewriter
pnss10       sans-serif = roman (upright)
pnssb10      sans-serif = roman bold
pnssi10      sans-serif = italic (originally `oblique')

and I suggest that Frank changes his pandora.doc and = distributes a
new version, since we are not allowed to change any = of these files!
