Thanks for answering Barbara, but that's not exactly what I wanted
to hear.

In describing the problem I already interpreted the data, i.e.
what I saw on the paper. What I need to know is: (i) is it true
that LaTeX doesn't take this into  account, and (ii) if so,
where do I change this?
