I do not understand all the implications, but at least I see now why there is need for the \currentsection command. When I proposed this I had only a very diffuse idea that it might be necessary... There is one point where we disagree, and that's the question of user- specified section numbers. The basic idea came from Michael Downes, when he pointed out on the LaTeX-L list a while ago that we have to account for special numbering of theorems. While I see that normally there is no need for a special numbering of sections (unlike in the theorem case) I can think of some cases where the author wants to label sections like, e.g., 2.1, 2.1', 2.2. I don't think that we can simply dismiss this as `bad document structure'. I (and also Frank) think that we should communicate this discussion via the LaTeX-L list; if you don't object I will forward our messages. Studying the Listserv documentation I found a way to allow someone to send to the LaTeX-L list without him receiving the messages. Do you want me to set the options for one of your addresses? If so, which one? You should also be able to do this yourself by sending a line saying SET LATEX-L NOMAIL NOFILES to listserv@dhdurz1. Rainer
