Here my opinion is similar to Leslie's: there's no use in adding yet another environment needed only by a part of the users when it is easy to add it for the user himself. Which brings me to the point raised in the subject line: we must not produce a system that is considerably larger than present LaTeX, or we will have been working in vain. Trying to put all and everything into this new implementation will make it unusable. Let's concentrate on the parts of the kernel that need improvement: sectioning, table of contents (...), floats (output routine),... Rainer
